The Days Between Appointments
If you are facing cancer, you probably know this rhythm well. You get perhaps twelve minutes with your oncologist. Then you wait 3-6 weeks for the next appointment, and nobody gives you a plan for the days in between.
So you fill that time the best way you know how. You search online late at night. You join Facebook groups. You read about supplements and try a few. You guess at what you should be eating. And if we are honest, with so many conflicting opinions, the more you research, the more anxious you feel and the further you seem from an answer. Underneath it all is an unsettled feeling that something is still missing.
That feeling is not imagined. Something is usually missing, and that’s why The Great Physician Cancer Coaching exists: to give patients and families a clear, doctor-designed plan for the time between appointments, one that supports conventional treatment rather than competing with it. We name the program for Jesus Christ, our Creator and the Great Physician, and faith in Him shapes everything we do.
Oncology’s Blind Spot
Even the best driver has a blind spot. So does the conventional cancer system. A blind spot is not carelessness or a lack of skill. It is simply the place where there is room to see more.
Your oncology team is excellent at watching the tumor. They track scans, tumor markers, staging, routine bloodwork, and how the cancer responds to treatment. That work is essential, and it is designed to help you and save your life.
What often falls outside that view is the whole person being treated. That includes the body’s internal environment, which helps determine how well treatment works. It includes the diet and daily strategies a patient needs to get the most from treatment, and protecting and healing the damage treatment can cause. It also addresses why cancer developed in the first place. And it includes a plan for keeping cancer from returning once treatment is over. Conventional treatment may be addressing only half the problem. Our program covers the other half.
The Five Unseen Causes of Treatment Failure and Recurrence
After four decades of caring for cancer patients, I have come to see five problems that quietly undermine treatment and set the stage for recurrence. Most are measurable and documented in research, yet often overlooked.
The first is treatment toxicity and depletion. Many patients enter treatment already carrying a heavy toxic load from years of lifestyle, along with poor digestion, constipation, dehydration, depleted minerals, a sluggish liver and lymphatic system, a weakened immune system, and a poor diet. A body in that condition has a harder time tolerating the therapy it needs. Inflammation runs higher, side effects hit harder, and the immune system is drained further. When the body is properly supported before and during treatment, patients often tolerate treatment longer, experience fewer side effects, and enjoy a better quality of life.
The second is treatment interference. This is one of the most common problems I see, and it usually comes from good intentions. Concentrated antioxidant supplements such as vitamins A, C, and E, CoQ10, NAC, glutathione, resveratrol, and green tea extract can shield cancer cells from the very chemotherapy and radiation meant to destroy them. Certain herbs, including curcumin, berberine, ashwagandha, St. John’s wort, and ginseng, can change how the liver processes cancer drugs, either raising their toxicity or weakening their effect. Some prescription and over-the-counter medications can suppress immune function. A diet heavy in animal meat, dairy, and sugar may promote inflammation and cancer growth. And some popular alternative protocols, from high-dose IV vitamin therapies to antioxidant-heavy regimens, can work against conventional treatment rather than with it. That is why, in our program, subtracting comes before adding.
The third is an acidic, oxygen-starved internal environment. Tumors thrive in inflamed, acidic, oxygen-poor tissue. That environment hinders drug delivery, promotes treatment resistance, and makes cancer more aggressive. A more alkaline, oxygen-rich environment helps sensitize cancer cells to treatment and protects healthy blood cells from harm.
The fourth is incomplete cleanup of dead cancer-cell debris. As treatment begins to work and tumors shrink, dying cancer cells leave behind debris, including fragments of genetic material called cell-free chromatin particles. When nearby surviving cancer cells absorb that debris, inflammation rises, and the cancer can become more aggressive. Over time, treatment can stop working.
The fifth is cancer stem cells that survive treatment. Radiation and chemotherapy can kill the bulk of a tumor while leaving behind a small population of stem-like cancer cells protected by their own antioxidant shield. These cells resist radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy, can be spread during surgery, and have no FDA-approved treatment. They are a major reason cancer returns months or years later.
Ask yourself honestly: how many of these five is your care team tracking, and has anyone built a plan with you for all of them?
A Three-Part Plan to Beat Cancer and Keep It from Coming Back
The Great Physician Cancer Coaching addresses the five unseen causes through three connected parts. Each one answers a fear we hear from patients again and again.
The first part is The Remission Blueprint. It answers the patient who says, “I have been researching, and I am anxious, but I still don’t have a plan.” It begins with a custom assessment of your diagnosis and treatment, then maps out how to address each of the five causes in your situation. It all comes together in a simple daily healing checklist, so instead of guessing every morning, you know exactly what to do. The goal is to replace fear with faith and a doctor-designed plan.
The second part is The Redesigning Treatment System. It answers the patient who asks, “What if I suffer through treatment and it still doesn’t work?” It starts with a treatment interference audit, a careful review of every supplement, herb, medication, and protocol you are using, to remove anything that could be working against your treatment. Then we implement an easy, mostly plant-based alkaline diet plan that is high in protein and simple to follow, along with a targeted supplement protocol designed to support an alkaline, oxygen-rich internal environment. The aim is to help conventional treatment work at its best while easing its side effects.
The third part is the Recurrence Protection Plan. It answers the patient who says, “I am scared I will get through treatment but live in fear of cancer returning.” Getting through treatment is not enough. This part of the program includes a root-cause investigation into why cancer developed, a plan to help the body recover from the damage treatment can leave behind, and a remission strategy for the critical 2-5 years after treatment ends, guided by advanced bloodwork. That way, you can spend the time between checkups working a plan rather than waiting in fear.
How the Program Works
The program is designed so that you can follow it from home, without traveling to an expensive alternative clinic. At its heart is an eight-week online course that I teach together with Matt White, a cancer coach with more than 15 years of experience guiding patients through integrative cancer strategies. For Matt, this work began when both of his parents were diagnosed with cancer in the same year. Each week opens with a main lecture and builds on the last, starting with a roadmap for the whole program and a gentle first step into a plant-based way of eating. Later weeks cover topics such as pro-oxidant strategies like high-ozonide oil, simple detox routines, lymphatic support, and liver and kidney support.
You’ll put what you learn into daily practice with the daily healing checklist. Alongside the program’s supplement protocol, it includes simple habits such as an electrolyte drink, keeping digestion moving, digestive enzymes with meals when needed, and a 15-minute walk each day. It also includes a few minutes, once or twice a day, of listening to and speaking aloud a set of Scriptures chosen to renew the mind.
You won’t do this alone. Every patient joins group calls with Matt and me, where we answer questions, adjust course as needed, and you become part of a private patient community with lifetime access. We offer three levels of support, and all three include the full program and training, plus three months of the supplement protocol. The Foundation level runs three months. The Select level runs four months and adds daily one-on-one text and phone access to Matt, plus an additional month of one-on-one coaching. The Private level runs six months and adds comprehensive bloodwork ordered by me, a two-hour private consultation to interpret it, a retest at three months, and direct email access to me. Because we work personally with every patient, we accept only a limited number of new patients each month.
Alongside Your Oncology Team, Never Instead of It
I want to be very clear about one thing. This program does not ask you to abandon your conventional treatment, and it does not ask you to choose between your oncologist and us. Every part of it is designed to work alongside the care your oncology team provides. It also doesn’t ask you to spend tens of thousands of dollars at an alternative clinic or become a test subject for unproven protocols you found online.
It does ask for commitment. We ask you to follow the protocol as designed, which means letting go of endless research and setting aside strategies we haven’t reviewed together. We ask you to show up to calls when you can and stay faithful to your daily healing checklist. Most of all, tell us the truth about what you are taking, how you are feeling, and where you are struggling. We can only help with what we know about.
Faith Over Fear
Fear is part of nearly every cancer journey. It shows up in the waiting room, in the weeks between scans, and in the quiet hours of the night. A plan helps, because it replaces guessing with purpose. But a plan alone isn’t enough to carry someone through. That is why our program tends to the spirit as well as the body, helping patients move from feeling terrified and overwhelmed to feeling calm and confident, with stronger faith in God and greater peace before every scan.
I have spent more than 40 years as a physician, and I believe Christ, our Creator, wrote the capacity for healing into the very cells of the body He designed. Our work is to support that design as faithfully as we can, and to point patients back to the One who made them. We can offer a plan, but lasting peace comes from Him.
How to Begin
The best first step is our free live workshop, Oncology’s Blind Spot. Matt and I host it every Tuesday at 5:00 PM Central, and it ends with an open question-and-answer session where you can ask about your own situation. Whether you were recently diagnosed, are in treatment right now, have finished treatment and want to stay cancer-free, are living with a recurrence or advanced cancer, or are here for someone you love, you are welcome.
If you leave the workshop wanting more personal guidance, you can book a free 20-minute call with Matt to talk through whether the program is a good fit for you.
You do not have to keep searching alone at 2:00 in the morning. If you or someone you love is facing cancer, you can save your free seat at TheGreatPhysician.health.
In health and in faith,
Dr. Daniel Thomas
