Pomegranate found to strengthen muscle and extend life

The ancient pomegranate fruit mentioned in the Bible in the book of Exodus have been found to strengthen aging muscles and increase lifespan. Studies performed on elderly mice found that they were able to run 42% further after just 6 weeks of eating pomegranate daily. Studies on worms found that pomegranate could help them live 50% longer. Studies on human are now underway.

A natural plant compound found in pomegranate called ellagic acid is turned into a chemical called urolithin A by the bacteria living in the gut. Urolithin A has been found to increase the activity of mitochondria—the tiny power plants in our cells that slow down with age. Pomegranates have already been shown to lower blood pressure and improve heart health. Now they may be able to slow the very aging process itself.
