Bottled water contaminated with tiny plastic particles

According to a recent study at the State University of New York at Fredonia, most of the leading brands of bottled water have been found to be contaminated with tiny pieces of plastic. Too small to be seen with the naked eye, the microplastic particles averaged about 100 microns (1/10th of a millimeter) in diameter.

The plastic debris included polypropylene, nylon, and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). There were about 10 particles per bottle. Most of the plastic particles were actual fragments and not fibers. The particles were found by staining them using fluorescent Nile red dye, which makes plastic particles fluorescent when irradiated with blue light.

According to government reports, chemicals from plastics called phthalates are the single-most prevalent pollutant in the human body. They are 10,000 more concentrated than any other chemical found in the body. Phthalates have been found to be a contributing factor in weight gain, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, ADHD, infertility, syndrome, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, allergies, asthma, cancer, autism, anxiety, and depression.

Comments: Previous research has also found tiny plastic particles in tap water but on a smaller scale. To safeguard your health, do not purchase water that comes in plastic bottles. Stick to water bottled in glass. Better yet, make own. I recommend the Berkey brand water filter for this purpose. When on the go, store your filtered water in a bottle made of glass or stainless steel.
