Sitting vs. smoking

New research shows that sitting for long periods of time may be just as dangerous as smoking cigarettes. Dr. David Coven, a cardiologist with St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City, found that prolonged sitting is now linked to an increased risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer, and even early death. “The fact of being sedentary causes factors to happen in the body that are very detrimental,” said Dr. Coven. The more hours a day you sit, the greater your chance of developing one or more of these diseases, just as with smoking.

I recommend taking breaks as often as you can and move around a little, or take a short walk.
