According to a new study conducted at the University of California, late-night snacks could have a negative impact on your learning and memory abilities. Eating late in the night was found to lessen the activity of an important brain protein called CREB (cAMP response element binding protein), This protein may be involved in Alzheimer’s disease, and when it is less active, memory can suffer.
The researchers also found that late-night snacking can disrupt normal sleep patterns, especially REM (rapid eye movement) sleep which is the deepest stage of sleep. This too can adversely affect memory. Being disciplined with regards to when we eat can have a major impact on our brain health.
