In the most comprehensive and definitive analysis every performed on organic foods, researchers presented their findings in the British Journal of Nutrition. Not only were organically-grown fruits and vegetables found to be less toxic than conventionally-grown foods, the organic foods were found to more more nutritious as well. This study destroyed the myth that how we grow our food does not affect the quality of the food.
Researchers founds the conventional produce and grains contain four times the amount of pesticide residues than their organic counterparts. They also contained higher amounts of toxic heavy metal such as cadmium. There was a significant difference in the nutritional content as well, with organic foods containing up to 69% more antioxidants than their conventional counterparts. The difference between organic and conventional produce was so dramatic, the researchers said, switching to an all-organic diet was the nutritional-equivalent of adding one or two extra daily servings of fruits and vegetables to your diet!
