In a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers found that people who ate canned soup experienced a whopping 1,221% rise in bisphenol A (BPA) compared to those who ate fresh soup. BPA is an endocrine-disrupting chemical that is pervasive in our food supply nowadays. Studies have linked BPA to heart disease, cancer of the breast and prostate, diabetes, infertility, and ADHD in children.
The harmful effects of BPA from plastics have been known for some time, but it was not until this study that it was discovered how much BPA levels in the body rise when exposed to canned foods. The results were shocking in their magnitude.
