More studies affirm the safety of testosterone therapy

At the 64th annual scientific session of the American College of Cardiology in March, more evidence was presented that affirmed the safety of testosterone therapy.

Dr. Pawan Patel of Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN presented the outcome of a detailed analysis of 29 different studies looking at the relationship, if any, between testosterone therapy and increased heart-disease risk. This analysis included a total of more than 120,000 men. No relationship was found between testosterone therapy and heart disease. Dr. Patel said, “Our analysis… gives hope that we can do more with testosterone therapy.”

Dr. Arshad Jahangir, Director of the Center for Integrative Research on Cardiovascular Aging in Milwaukee, WI presented his findings from an observational study involving over 7,000 men with low testosterone. Some of the men received testosterone therapy and some did not. It was found that testosterone therapy did not increase the risk of heart disease.  Dr. Jahangir said, “The reassurance we get from this analysis in the community setting is that testosterone replacement therapy in patients with low serum levels is not causing any harm…”
