According to a study in a recent edition of the Annals of Internal Medicine, a low-carbohydrate diet heavy on animal protein and fat is associated with greater long-term mortality, while a plant-based, low-carbohydrate diet is linked to lower mortality. Researchers found that people who ate an animal-based, low-carbohydrate diet had an increased risk for all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. Those who ate a plant-based, low-carbohydrate diet had a reduced risk for all-cause and cardiovascular mortality.
