Fiber found to reduce arthritis pain

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s) are commonly prescribed to treat pain due to osteoarthritis. Due to their potential side effects, the need for safer alternatives is clear. For those suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee, higher intake of dietary fiber is linked to reduced pain according to a new study published in Arthritis Care & Research.

For nearly a decade, researchers followed the dietary patterns of 4,500 participants at risk of or suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee. Those with the highest intake of fiber were found to have far less pain during walking, stair-climbing, and weight-bearing,
